India and the US have settled their World Trade Organisation (WTO) poultry dispute, with New Delhi agreeing to lower tariffs on various American products, including frozen turkey, frozen duck, and fresh, frozen, dried, and processed blueberries and cranberries.

The agreement was announced in a joint statement following a bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister and the President. The statement highlighted the resolution of the seventh and final outstanding WTO dispute between the two countries, following the settlement of six other disputes in June 2023.

US Trade Representative Katherine Tai also confirmed the resolution of the WTO poultry dispute with India in a separate statement. As part of the agreement, India will reduce tariffs on specific U.S. products, expanding economic opportunities for American agricultural producers in the Indian market.

Ambassador Tai had discussions with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry after the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers’ Meeting in August. Both parties expressed their desire to find a solution to the WTO dispute, which is seen as an important milestone in the U.S.-India trade relationship.

The resolution of this dispute is a significant step towards enhancing market access for American agricultural producers and strengthening the bilateral partnership between the two countries, as highlighted by Ambassador Tai. The recent developments, combined with high-level visits between leaders, demonstrate the strong bond between the U.S. and India.

In June, the U.S. and India agreed to close six other WTO disputes and reduce tariffs on various American products, further deepening their trade relationship. Today’s agreement marks the end of a longstanding dispute and signals a new era of cooperation between the two nations.
